How We Scaled EchoXen Using NewsBreak Video-First Native Ads

How XenTraffic Scaled EchoXen to $9,700/Month Using NewsBreak Video-First Native Ads

Most media buyers overlook NewsBreak. That was our edge.

While competitors were fighting over CPMs on Facebook and battling rising CPAs on Taboola, we quietly built a $9,700/month revenue stream for EchoXen on a platform that was wide open: NewsBreak — the #1 most downloaded news app in the United States, with over 40 million monthly active users who skew exactly toward our demographic: health-conscious adults aged 50+.

This is a breakdown of exactly how we did it.

Why NewsBreak Works for Nutra Offers

NewsBreak is a contextual native advertising platform embedded inside a news consumption experience. Users are in reading mode — they are primed to absorb information, not scroll past ads. That mindset is gold for VSL-style nutra offers.

Key platform advantages:

  • Video-first placements embedded directly inside news content feeds
  • Precise demographic targeting — age, interest, contextual (articles about health, aging, memory loss)
  • Performance-based bidding — tCPA, Max Conversions, Target ROAS
  • Less competition — most affiliates are not here yet, which means lower CPMs and more room to test

For EchoXen — a hearing and cognitive support supplement targeting adults 50+ — the fit was near-perfect.

The Funnel Architecture

We did not drive cold traffic straight to the product page. That almost never works on native at scale.

Our funnel structure:

  1. NewsBreak Video Native Ad — 30 to 45 second hook video (problem-focused, not product-first)
  2. Pre-Lander (Advertorial) — 800-word article-style page that educates before selling
  3. VSL Sales Page — Full video sales letter with soft CTA: Watch the short presentation

The pre-lander is where most affiliates skip a step. Do not. It doubles conversion rates on cold traffic.

The Three Creative Angles We Tested

We split-tested three narrative frameworks across 12 video creatives:

1. The Navy SEAL Angle

Premise: Elite operators depend on peak auditory and cognitive performance. Here is what they use.

Result: Highest watch-through rate (68% to 30 seconds). Strong with male 55+ audience. Best for cold traffic.

2. The Aviation Angle

Premise: Pilots require precision hearing and split-second cognitive recall. Here is the supplement protocol that keeps them sharp.

Result: Strong CVR on warm retargeting. Niche but highly credible.

3. The Rockstar Angle

Premise: Musicians who have spent decades in loud venues are protecting their hearing with this.

Result: Best performance with the 50-65 female demographic. Highest AOV of the three angles.

The Rockstar angle surprised us. We expected the Navy SEAL creative to dominate across the board — but the female 50-65 segment responded overwhelmingly to the music lifestyle angle. Never assume. Always test.

The Results

After 90 days of optimization:

  • Monthly revenue: $9,700+
  • Average EPC: $3.80 to $4.20 depending on angle
  • Best CPA achieved: $62 (against $120 payout — near 2x ROAS)
  • Winning creative: Rockstar Angle, 38-second video, female 55 to 64 targeting
